Moroccan root vegetable soup!

Supper tonight. From one of the Moosewood cookbooks. It is very yummy!

PEI Marathon!

So just a little over a month ago, Brad did the P.E.I. marathon! Even better, our friend Jeremy from Alabama, the guy Brad hiked a lot of the Appalachian Trail with, was here at the same time for a week-long visit. Jeremy arrived on Friday, we drover over to Prince Edward Island on Saturday. We had a two-bedroom cottage rented, and that night, we had a potluck supper with a lot of the folks from Brad's running group. There was lots of good food! The race was on Sunday. Jeremy came in first, as he did the half marathon. Brad did the full marathon and came in a while later. They did some yoga on the grass after the race. More of Brad's friends from his running club drove home after the race, but we had the cottage rented for another night, so we dined out in Charlottetown and had a quiet evening at the cottage to ourselves. We drove home on Monday. It was a great visit with Jeremy. So good to see him again after three years! We had lots of good food and lots of laughs. Brad's going to run a race with Jeremy in Alabama next year, so I will probably tag along for that.
In other news, I'm back at Weight Watchers try to drop a few pounds again! I'm down almost 9 so far with about 12 or 13 more to go. I let the stationary bike gather dust most of the summer, opting instead to walk outside, a lot of the time with my good friend Shaun. We put on a lot of miles over the summer. But now that the cool/cold weather is upon us, I've started back biking. Last week, I biked 79.4 km and walked 18 km! I'm going to get those pounds off by January!
I'll try to post more often as well! Thanks to all of you who've hung around! :)

Postcards from St. Andrews, N.B.

So we've been renting a beautiful coastal property just outside of St. Andrews, N.B. We're here for a few more days. It's a beautiful spot. We've been doing a lot of walking, reading, cooking and eating. Oh, and watching a lot of the World Cup! It's very peaceful and quiet here at night. Just loons and peeping frogs. Here are a few pics.

Last pics from South Beach

Finally... the last pics from February's trip to SoBe. The first ones are from our day in Winwood and the ones after are from the South Beach Wine and Food Festival. Whadda great time!

Beautiful sunny day here today, but there's still plenty of snow on the ground. And another 5 cm forecast for tomorrow. After that, it's supposed to be rainy and mild, so hopefully we see the end of the snow within a week and a half. I certainly hope so!

From Russia with love...

Moscovites reciting a poem on a transit bus. Wish my Russian was better, but I think this speaks to you even if you don't know a word of the language. We are one planet after all. (I'm pretty sure I was Russian in another life!) :)

More pics from Miami!

These are from the day we took a taxi over to the Wynwood Design District of Miami for lunch at Wynwood Kitchen and Bar. We went a bit early and walked around a little first. Glad we did. It was a bit of an expensive lunch, as it was a $25 taxi ride each way, but well worth it! It's a really neat area as you can see from the pics below:

In other news, winter here refuses to budge! More snow on the way tonight and there is already a "special weather statement" posted for next Wednesday - a really big storm, apparently, with lots of snow and high winds. Ugh...

On the brighter side of things, I won $1,000 on the lotto the other night! Six out of seven on Keno. If I had had the last number it would have been $50,000! Next time!

Back from South Beach!

Hey all!

Paul and Ron and I made it back from South Beach in one piece! We had a heck of a good time, despite some minor problems. Our flight to Toronto on the way was delayed as the plane coming from TO to pick us up took off late owing to deicing. (Oh the joys of travelling in wintertime in Canada!) But, we had lots of time to make our connection and, after that minor hick-up, everything went smoothly. As we were making our way to queque for a cab at MIA, a very well-heeled woman with a load of expensive suitcases paused to tell Ron that he had eyes like a Raphäel painting! Welcome to Miami, folks! We made our way to our hotel on Collins Avenue in South Beach, had a glass of wine on the patio and then went for a late dinner at FL Café, which was basically across the street. Good food and wonderful service by our handsome French waiter. After a long day of travel, we retired quite soon after dinner. The next morning we had breakfast at the 11th Street diner, which was a couple of block away and then made our way to the beach. Here are a few pics to get started. the last few pics are from a lunch I had at Tongue and Cheek restaurant in SoBe that was connected to the Wine and Food Festival. Robert Irvine was there and signed huis latest book for me! Check out those guns, eh! It was a great meal and I'll certainly go back to Tongue and Cheek next time I'm in town!
