Just some unrelated bits and pieces.
It was a beautiful day here yesterday - clear and 15 C (almost 60 F) in sun. There's still a lot of snow in the backyard, but it's melting. It's hard for the dogs when they go out to do their business because they now sink down into the snow up to their shoulders.
The river is open in places now, too. People who live in flood-prone areas are a bit concerned this year. They're hoping the thaw will come gradually, not all at once.
Spring is really the dirty season here as well. The streets and sidewalks are wet and dirty. The city spreads sand on the both during the winter, and with everything melting, the dogs are a real mess when they get home from their walks. We towel them off as best we can, but it's a struggle to keep the grit out of the house. Oy. And speaking of the house... A BIG spring-cleaning will soon be in order.
And the robins are back in town - another sure sign of spring! I've seen a few for the last couple of days from the bus, but this morning was the first time I heard them singing as I was walking Kaiser. If spring were a noise it would be a robin's song.
One last thing: Brad has stopped buying paper towels! He says they are unecological and wasteful. I agree, but I used to go through a pile of them. Drying off washed fruit, cleaning up spills, cleaning windows and mirrors, doubling as napkins when we don't have guests, and the list goes on... So far, I'm making do with tea-towels and left-over Christmas napkins, but it's definitely an adjustment.
