We just had a visit from Santa Maria (aka our good friend Mary). There had been a break in the rain, so I decided to mow the front lawn (with our wonderful reel mower), and I'd just finished that task and was in the kitchen when our doorbell rang, which is surprising because it often doesn't work. The dogs started barking - one of the rare occasions when Jasper will bark is when someone rings the doorbell; that when the mailman deposits our mail. I rolled my eyes (as I am wont to do sometimes). I was hot and sweaty and I expected to find a J.W. or a L.D.S. "elder" ready to offer me a spiel about the evils of homosexuality or the imminent return of Jesus H. Christ (What's the "H" stand for? Anybody know??) :-)
Happily, what I find at the door is Mary bearing a care package of no less than 6 kinds of cheese, grapes, bread and butter pickles, their homemade mustard pickles (my favourite in the whole world), stuffed olives, a little bowl of fresh raspberries, and a baguette that Shaun had just taken out of the oven. Wow!! How nice can you be?? Knowing that we have had a tough and trying week, this was their way of telling us that they've been thinking of us.
Man.... Brad and I are fortunate indeed to have such good friends.
Thank you.
